Before relocating to Halifax in the fall of 2019, Ashley had been involved in her local yoga community in Muskoka for the past 12 years. As a teacher and studio owner for 8 of those years, she was committed to and inspired by movement and mindfulness practices that evolved with the individual practitioner. No matter the differing levels of abilities in her classes, Ashley has always taught safe alignment principles, encouraging a calm and steady mindset, alongside balancing true strength and flexibility training.
Ashley is a firm believer that any movement practice must be tailored to the student, and she has developed a keen eye for modification, use of props, and verbal cues enabling each member of the class to experience the practice as they need it, that day. Ashley’s classes are an informed and creative moment-to-moment exploration of the physical, mental, and emotional domains of yogic and meditation practices.
Having competed and coached in artistic gymnastics, Ashley is passionate about physical expression and sustainability. Her yoga training includes NCCP Artistic Gymnastics Level One, 200 hours of hatha yoga with Marianne Wells, 300 hours of vinyasa yoga and somatic practices with Real Evolution Yoga, and 75 hours of restorative Thai yoga massage. She founded and operated Zen Muskoka Yoga Studio in 2013 and Muskoka Yoga Festival in 2016 in Bracebridge, Ontario. She continues to co-facilitate retreats and programs with Real Evolution Yoga in the US and Canada. When she’s not in studio, you can find Ashley leading yoga and surf retreats in California, Costa Rica, Indonesia, and anywhere the waves are good.
